San Carlos de Bariloche competes with Málaga (Spain), Minnesota (USA), Phuket (Thailand) and Belgrade (Serbia). All of them had the first evaluation was in Paris and the final decision will be made by the 170 countries of the BIE in June, 2023.
The latest Specialized Expo (Expo 2017, Antara) received almost 4 millions visitors and took place in the capital city, Kazajistán, Nur-Sultan under the theme “Future Energy” following those held in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
Today, neither Africa nor South America have yet hosted the Expos. This candidacy has a particular relevance, in 2017 Argentina was chosen to host the Expo 2023 in Buenos Aires. However, the COVID-19 pandemic modified the schedule Expo 2020 in Dubai, so the schedule for Argentina was cancelled.
The new postulation offers the possibility of participation to a new Latin American audience, which will have the opportunity to participate in a worldwide event of great scope, which will also make possible the strengthening of the scientific, technological and productive profile of Bariloche and areas of influence.
Likewise, the proposed theme invites to reinforce the work being done in the training of new technological and environmental specialties. An important aspect of these events is that they leave as a legacy to the host city, significant improvements in the infrastructure for tourism and urban areas, which will have immediate use and will be integrated to the city in a real and effective way.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Manzur; the Ambassador of the UNESCO Executive Board, Marcela Losardo; the Mayor of Bariloche, Gustavo Genusso. The Director of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Díaz Bartolomé; the member of the Expo 2027 Executive Committee, Dana Borojovich; and the specialized advisors of the Executive Committee, Javier Grosman; and of EXPO 2027, Miguel Ángel Cuberos attended the meeting.
Also present were members of the BIE Executive Committee, Alain Berger; the director of the Exhibitions Department, Stefano Acbano; the general coordinator Pauline Godignon. In addition, the chief of Protocol, Sarah Carosiello; the Exhibitions Officer Wanja Roguez and the delegates for the Federal Republic of Germany, Patrick Specht; for the Kingdom of Lesotho, Barbara Masupha; and for the Hellenic Republic, Apostolos Michalopoulos attended the meeting.
